The Collar

I always saw
Being a lawyer
As being the same as
Working in the concrete works
At Kaiwaka
It is slavery
Whichever way
You wish to look at it
In fact
I enjoyed working at the concrete works
Far more
Because back then
There was hope
Real hope
That one day
I would become a writer
No one pigeon holed me
As they constantly do
When you are a lawyer
I would actually demote
Being a lawyer
To blue collar
Not because you need
To get down and dirty
To make a buck
But when I began writing
I felt that
Being a lawyer
Was far below me
And that
White collar was reserved
For artists and philosophers
